The “White City” is the romantic name given to Lisbon in many books. This attractive and especially captivating capital rises above the majestic Tagus River and extends over seven hills. Less than 30 km outside of Lisbon we find the fashionable seaside resorts villages of Estoril and Cascais. Somewhat more inland lies Sintra, an Unesco World Heritage.
Rustic, colorful and picturesque, northern Portugal is the place where the country was born. Porto, a dynamic, welcoming and lively city that has been recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is the gateway and starting point for a trip around the region. Following the Douro River upstream we arrive at the Douro Valley, world oldest demarked wine region and the unique place where the Port Wine is produced.
Cork trees, olive trees and corrugated fields as far as the eye can see, dotted with old castles on the hills or small towns with white-colored houses. This is the picture of Portuguese Alentejo.
